When Misty and I first saw it we looked at each other and didn’t know what to say. The community we live in here in Tucson has some “woodsy people” (as my Mom likes to refer to them) and considers itself fairly progressive, so it’s not unusual to see an Obama or Clinton sign occupying space on cars or front lawns. In fact, some woodsy-chick is trying to pass a law that bans razors and deodorants and bras. Women will only be allowed to wear long, hand-made dresses made of very thin, transparent material. Also, no more showering—only baths and only on Saturdays under the light of a full moon. The city we came from was conservative so you were more likely to see Bush/Cheney signs and big trucks with gun racks in them and lots of testosterone lying about. What’s unusual is to see an Obama sign with an African tribal mask directly above it. What is one to think of this? Obama has Kenyan roots so perhaps this mask has some Kenyan meaning attached to it. Is there a need to identify an Obama sign with an African tribal mask? The people who live in the house are Caucasian, not that that means anything except to point out they are Caucasian. And why would I feel the need to point this out you ask? No reason, except to point out that they are Caucasian. Personally, I like the mask and it looks good in their yard, but I’m not so sure about an Obama sign placed directly below it. Why? What's the point? Would the equivalent be a Bush sign with a dunce cap above it? Or a Hillary sign with a feminist goddess mask above it? Is there even a need to question such a thing? I will add that the day after I took these pictures the sign was removed. Now there is no evidence of Obama, but the mask still remains…..
